Van Mieghem Logistics obtains WDA wholesale distribution authorisation for its new pharmaceutical warehouse in Fleurus
This is a significant milestone in our development. Our new warehouse dedicated to pharmaceutical products, located in Fleurus, has obtained its Wholesale Distribution Authorisation (WDA) for medicines for human and veterinary use, issued by the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP).
A logistics site rooted in the Belgian landscape
The Fleurus site is no stranger to Belgian logistics. Established alongside the E42 motorway since the early 2000s, it today represents nearly 45,000 m² of covered surface area, positioning Van Mieghem Logistics among the major logistics players in Wallonia.
Over the years, the site has undergone profound transformations, including a final extension phase built less than ten years ago, entirely redesigned to meet the modern standards of specialised logistics. It is precisely within this extension that our new pharmaceutical warehouse is located.
Its location is an undeniable strategic asset: in the immediate vicinity of Charleroi, at the crossroads of motorway axes connecting Brussels, Liège, Namur and northern France, the site offers optimal connectivity for fast and secure deliveries at national and cross-border level.
A qualified infrastructure, designed for the pharmaceutical sector
This new dedicated warehouse covers 5,000 m² and offers a capacity of 7,500 pallets in temperature-controlled storage (15°C–25°C). It has been qualified to meet the most stringent requirements of the sector.
The main operational zones include:
- Inbound zone (IN) dedicated to checks upon arrival of goods and their handling prior to integration into stock
- Main storage zone for marketable products
- Zone dedicated to returned products, isolated from marketable stock and awaiting evaluation or processing
- Quarantine zone for products suspected of falsification or awaiting a quality decision, pending release, reprocessing or destruction
- Outbound zone (OUT) dedicated to the preparation and final control of orders before loading
This organisation guarantees a clear separation of goods statuses and makes it possible to prevent any risk of mix-up or distribution error, in compliance with the requirements of Good Distribution Practice (GDP).
Full GDP compliance
Every aspect of the warehouse has been developed in strict compliance with the European GDP (Good Distribution Practice) guidelines, as defined by European Commission Directive 2013/C 343/01:
- Qualification of premises and equipment: thermal mapping of storage zones and qualification of the temperature monitoring system
- Continuous monitoring: real-time surveillance of temperature and humidity parameters, with automated alerts
- Complete traceability: management of batch numbers, expiry dates and stock movements via our WMS
- Robust quality system: documented procedures, management of deviations, complaints, product recalls and non-conformities
- Continuous staff training: GDP training programmes regularly updated
- Enhanced controls upon receipt: verification of goods integrity, documentary compliance and transport conditions
- Structured document management: SOPs, FORMs, WIs... describing processes and operations, ensuring the availability, updating and secure archiving of all quality documents
This operational rigour guarantees permanent auditability of the site, both by our clients and by the competent authorities.
Over 20 years of expertise serving the pharmaceutical industry
This WDA wholesale distribution authorisation does not mark a starting point — it is part of a trajectory built on over 20 years of experience in pharmaceutical transport and more than 15 years in dedicated storage logistics for the sector.
Since its early days, Van Mieghem Logistics has developed recognised expertise in the management of the cold chain and high-value-added products, serving pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesale distributors and importers. Obtaining this WDA for storage is the logical continuation of this long-standing commitment: a concrete response to the growing needs of our clients in terms of compliant storage capacities.
This new warehouse now enables us to:
- Strengthen our integrated service offering of transport + storage for the pharmaceutical industry
- Absorb additional volumes with increased capacities of 7,500 pallets
- Guarantee the continuity of the compliance chain from collection through to final delivery
- Facilitate client audits and meet the qualification requirements of logistics service providers
