Brexit (update 30/06/2020)
Van Mieghem Logistics can help you to prepare for Brexit!
The latest negotiations set 31/12/2020 at 12:00pm as the deadline for the EU and the UK to reach a free trade agreement in order to avoid leaving without an agreement. Through UK Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove, the UK formally confirms its decision not to extend its current transition period until 31 December 2020 and following a high-level meeting with the Presidents of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council, Prime Minister Boris Johnson agrees to intensify discussions beyond 30 June in order to reach an agreement by the end of the year and avoid a no deal scenario. From July to August, meetings between the negotiators, European Michel Barnier and British David Frost, should be held weekly.
Nevertheless, this agreement will settle customs duties but not customs formalities as the agreements between Europe and Switzerland do. You will therefore be required to use a customs agency to draw up export, import and transit documents.
If you have business relations with the UK, there is still time to get your affairs in order and prepare for BREXIT.
The first thing to do is to request your EORI number from Belgian Customs by filling in the form in the link below, it is free and fast:
If you have frequent departures to the UK it would also be useful to apply for an "Approved Place" authorization from Belgian Customs, this will allow you to carry out the formalities directly from your establishments.
